Currently Listening Seven Swans By Sufjan Stevens I Think the Dress Looks Nice on You see related
On my ridiculous academic existence:
"What's your major?" - quite possibly the most asked question on college campuses. In fact, the first few days of school one is asked this question at least 83 bajillion times [yep, real statistic there]. If you are a normal person it is an easy question to answer with the normal "Marketing" or "Biology" [etc.]. Sometimes, you are a bit rebellious and have two majors, two minors, or the like - so you answer would be a bit more "Marketing and Accounting" or "Biology and Genetics" followed by the requisite "Oooooooooo...Ahhhh....two majors!"
What is my answer, friends?:
"Speech Communication and Community Health...with a History Minor." [all said in a slightly embarrassed voice, bracing for the conversation ahead] This is normally followed by something along the lines of "What the hell are you going to do with your life, you crazy person?!! None of those have anything to do with the others!!!" To which I must go into the details of Medicine/MPHness, and why I am not a bio major, and how Yes, that's right I am doing this again and getting a masters and m.d., and NO i am not legally insane.
I think I have had this conversation 80 times in the past two days. So my happy note of this being Senior Year? ::: Only one more round of first days in college!!
Gah! On Monday, I start my last fall semester of college. [okay...by which i mean: last fall semester of college...as an undergrad. still...] isn't that ridiculously unbelievable? Freshman year feels like it just ended! Alas...now we are the old kids around here!
So, I have a proposition. This has to be the best senior year...ever. I think I'm gonna make a list of all the things I haven't done yet which I want to do this year with all of my favorite people. I dont want to look back and feel like I missed out on the college experience. Though, I am quite possibly the biggest proponent of spontaneity...here is a bit of my Senior Year To-Do List:
-Go fountain hopping [yeah, i've never done it...im not sure how ive gotten away with that] -Go to the Dixie Chicken. Okay, so I've heard it is ubergross and smells like stale beer....and is in violation of every health code known to man...but, it is a legend. I have to go experience the dirtiness first hand. -Make out in a library. okay...who doesnt want to experience this? -Road trip to either Mexico or snow. We've said we were going to do both many times...this year it is happening. -Spend the night in the MSC. I missed out on the fun during finals...it shall have to be repeated, friends! -Have a grander repeat of "Halloween Mischief, Mayham, and Stealthiness" [with all the same magnificent mischief makers...plus a few] -Have a Scrubs marathon....including the drinking game, please.
Okay...these are just a few. Friends, you should add to the list! What do you want to do this year? It is our final chance for the most amazing year ever.....let's rock it.
ps- as per request...there will also be an increase in the number of themed parties this year. get excited.
1. It's funny how much life goes in cycles. For the past few weeks I have been giving serious consideration to staying at A&M for grad/med school. There are a ton of perks: already knowing the school, not changing towns, being able to differ med school admission, and already having good friends here.
That was the last few weeks. Now? I can't wait to get the hell away from here. I'm done. I just want to graduate and move away, please. This year is going to suck. So it should just go by quickly!
I wish there was the option of going to school in Austin. That would be o so much better than this.
2. I am sick of being an observer in life. Yes, I have quite a few friends, but i think it is because people know I will listen to all their things and not require reciprocation. I observe others' situations and give advice. Which is lovely. I like people. I like listening to people and actually understanding them. I dont normally need recognition for this. It just happens naturally. But i think this has made me fall through the cracks in so many different relationships. I am good to have around because I give others' stories importance...but I dont have any of my own so I am forgettable. So many people complain about their being taken advantage of, however, by the pure fact of complaining about it...they aren't being taken advantage of. They see it. They stand up for themselves. They actually get angry. I don't. I normally don't even notice until crazy things happen. Well...maybe it is time for me to take a page from the doers I know. This is my last year in college. I might as well do what I want...and stand up for myself in the process. So I'm going to complain to you, o xanga readers...and start the change.
3. On a happy note: Step Up was quite possibly the most hilarious movie I have ever seen. [but not in a good way]....i love laughing at dramatic moments. You should see it for pure laugh value.
4. i have revived my love of Death Cab. It hadn't actually left me, you see, but I had not actually listened to them in awhile - eschewing them for trendier, newer bands. Title and Registration is still one the most moving songs I have ever heard. Ben Gibbard is one of the only musicians whose songs I completely identify with. Most times, I get what they are trying to impart, but I dont personally have those feelings. I do with Death Cab. Every song strikes a chord somewhere in me - they are brilliant. [note: this also includes The Postal Service side as well...really Ben Gibbard is just my musical hero]
So many exciting things have happened since my last post:
1. Justin Timberlake came out with a new video & song. Yes, I realize your opinion of my coolness has just gone down at least 10 points. However....I dont care. Justin is hot. His songs have kick ass beats and interesting vocals. He is hot. He almost has sex with a girl in his new video. And i loved every minute of it. Viva Justin!
2. My dad started talking about buying me a car.
3. My dad....bought me a car. today. Here are the pictures of my amazing automobile [who may be called Natasha in honor of someone...not mentioning any names *Caitlin Hinton* belittling said name and favorite Rocky and Bulwinkle character]:
....so it is a super amazing Volvo S60. In an amazing color. With tons of fun things inside [do note that i actually have windshield wipers...for my headlights...classy!]. Im beyoooooooond excited!! Isn't it lovely!? They are delivering it to me sometime next week [we are having it shipped all the way from this very nice place in Alabama....eeeee!]
4. Umm...Did you see 1-3? Justin Timberlake AND a new car!? The only thing that could make this week better is if I had a wedding to go to for which I needed to buy a pretty dress. O right...I am going to a wedding. I need a pretty dress. Best week ever. [because I am such a girl. hooray!]
